WIPP HONORS SBTV.COM FOR COMMITMENT TO WOMEN-OWNED SMALL BUSINESSES

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 9, 2008) – The nation’s largest bipartisan women’s business group, Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), yesterday honored SBTV.com and its CEO, Susan Wilson Solovic, with the AT&T Innovator Award.  SBTV.com is the first television network on the web devoted 100 percent to the small business market - from business start-ups to established enterprises for their commitment to supporting women-owned businesses.

The awards were presented during WIPP’s We Decide! conference in Washington, DC. CNN anchor Carol Costello delivered the keynote address and American Express OPEN President Susan Sobbott presented the award to Solovic.

“As the first online news service devoted to educating and celebrating the small business market, SBTV.com has truly led the way for technology and small business innovations. A small business itself, SBTV.com continues to set an example of how small businesses work together in strengthening our economy,” said WIPP President Barbara Kasoff.

Founded in 2003, SBTV.com is the only video news and information destination for America’s 25 million small businesses.  The SBTV.com team is committed to providing small business owners with the tools they need to manage grow and protect their ventures.

“I am so happy to accept this award.  SBTV.com and WIPP have been working for years to keep business owners up to date on the important issues that impact their enterprises,” said Solovic.  “The hundreds of thousands of women business owners represented by WIPP understand the impact public policy has on their enterprises. As the premier video news and information site for America’s 25 million small businesses, it is important to bring this perspective to our viewers so they can make informed decisions.”

WIPP’s two-day conference was attended by hundreds of women business entrepreneurs from across the country and included a diverse roster of speakers, including Republican and Democratic Members of Congress, pollsters and representatives from the McCain and Obama campaigns. The conference centered on women entrepreneurs’ strength in the 2008 election and issues challenging women-owned small businesses, such as economic opportunities, health care reforms and federal contracts.

Speakers at this year’s conference included Women for McCain Chair Judy Black, Women for Obama Chair Betsy Myers, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and national pollsters Celinda Lake (D), president of Lake Research Partners, and Kellyanne Conway (R), President and CEO of the polling company, Inc./Woman Trend.

Additionally, WIPP presented the Economic Blueprint: The Women Business Owners Platform for Growth at a public roundtable hosted by the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.  The Economic Blueprint was created by 30 women’s business organizations as a call to action for Congress and the next administration.  It outlines six critical public policy areas that affect the expansion of women-owned businesses: healthcare, access to capital, energy, procurement, taxes and telecommunications
